Agree product references before discussing terms
A commercial product name may differ from its technical name. Interpreters need sample images, codes and reference sheets to establish that both sides mean the same item. Interpreting supports communication; supplier assessment, quality decisions and commercial approval remain with your qualified representatives. Specify the required spoken language rather than treating every Chinese language variety as interchangeable.
Illustrative scenario
In an illustrative sample review, one team describes external dimensions while the other uses usable dimensions. The interpreter asks both to indicate the measurement on the drawing and repeat the unit before continuing the discussion.
Client preparation checklist
- Specify Mandarin or another spoken-language requirement explicitly.
- Share catalogues, sample photographs, product codes and technical questions.
- Separate confirmed information from details awaiting checks or documents.
Practical point
Send names and product codes in writing. Similar-sounding letters and numbers are easy to confuse on a call.
